Barbara
Owens
d. Dec 21, 2019
COLUMBUS--Barbara J. "Grammy" Owens age 86 went to meet the angels on Saturday, December 21, 2019. She was born on August 22, 1933 in Jamestown Township, Grant Co. WI to Michael and Barbara (Riley) Kirchberg. She was married to Raymond Owens on October 19, 1957 in Rock Island, IL and had two children. Barbara was a wonderful mom, wife and homemaker before being employed at Sears where she worked in drapery and later as an installation coordinator for 18 years before retirement. When we think of our Grammy, mom and wife we think of a world of a woman. Grammy was a house built from brick and mortar that always had a warm glow beaming through the windows; tough as nails but with a heart as soft as butter especially when it came to her family. Grammy exercised her fascination with life through books and travel. Grammys love for books always kept her turning pages and she could read through a large hard cover in the time it would take most people to open one. Grammy had a love for relaxing hobbies like crocheting, sewing and bird watching. She loved making things for her grandchildren and composed many works of art in the form of afghans and winter hats. Grammy lived a very full and enjoyable life with her husband Ray, aka "Papa". Together they took on life and all its fantastic opportunities. They created a family that continues in growth to this day. So much of Grammy's light came from watching her family tree sprout new branches. Grammy had a love for nature and plants. Whether it was Deforest, Hot Springs or Columbus she would always have various plants and colorful flowers on display both inside and outside. She looked forward to Autumn drives to see the fall colors. She was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus. Survivors include her husband Ray of Columbus; one son Michael (Nicole) Owens of Columbus; one daughter Pam (Roger) Timm of Windsor; five grandchildren Josh Timm, Jake Timm, Joel Timm, Tony (Cassie) Owens and Paige (Spencer) Hollenbeck; one step granddaughter Echo Klemolin; three great grandchildren Jordan Owens, Michael Owens and Shay Timm; a sister Rita (Glenn) Hansen; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Vivian Vondron and Edna Lenstra. A memorial service was held at 12:00 P.M., with visitation beginning at 11:00 A.M., on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at ZION EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Columbus. Rev. Tim Schwartz officiated. Grammy may be gone physically, but she continues to live on in the family that she loved so strongly. She had her own personal connection and bond with each child, grandchild and great grandchild leaving a permanent mark on all of us. We will continue to see her in our dreams, memories and in all of the things around us that remind us of her. Grammy left a piece of her spirit in everyone she loved, giving us all something to hold onto and cherish in her physical absence. Her beauty, inside and out, is truly unforgettable and she will be missed immensely. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.jensenfuneralandcremation.com.
