Betty Joyce Schubert was called to her heavenly Father's home on Saturday, October 3, 2015, surrounded by her family after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. Betty was born on February 20, 1939 in Waupun to Lloyd and Lewilda (Schoenfeld) Schlamer. After graduating from Waupun High School, Betty attended the Kenosha School of Practical Nursing and graduated with a LPN degree. She loved working as a nurse in Milwaukee and Waupun and then later used those skills in helping raise a family. She was happily married to Rod Schubert for 54 years. Her family and friends enjoyed her many baked sweets. They were always kept on hand and often delivered. Betty had a green thumb. She looked forward to Spring and filling her yard full of flowers with Rod's help. She also loved cheering for her grandson's sports teams year-round. Betty was active at Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus as a greeter, sign artist and volunteer at many church activities. She was a person who loved to welcome visitors, new members and children. Betty especially like to make original greeting cards. Many friends and relatives appreciated receiving her creative and kind hand-drawn cards and there are many who still have them today. Betty is survived by her husband, Rod of Columbus; two sons, Dan (Ann) of Beaver Dam and their sons, Nick and Zack, and Dave (Patti) of Madison; two brothers, Bill (Shirley) Schlamer of Waupun and Dan Schlamer of Waukegan IL; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services were held at 4:00 P.M., with visitation beginning at 2:00 P.M., on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, Columbus. Rev. Robert V. Moberg officiated with Pastor Lisa Nelson and Sandy Schieble assisting. Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church or Alzheimer's Research. A special note of thanks to the caring people at Larson House, Heartland Hospice and Stoughton Hospital.
