Claire
Damm
d. Jan 29, 2021
Claire A. Damm, age 71, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2021 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Madison after a brief battle with Leukemia. She was born September 5, 1949 to Ferd and Alice Grebe of Fall River. She married the love of her life, Mike Damm, on April 12, 1969 and together they celebrated almost 48 years of marriage until his death in 2017.
Claire will be remembered for her devotion to her husband, children, and seven grandchildren. When she and Mike were married, she gave up nursing to work by his side on the family dairy farm and raise their three children. The kitchen was always filled with wonderful smells of Claire's cooking. She fed everyone who came to the house and often said, "Help yourself, don't be shy." Claire was also an avid gardener. She could grow anything - from green beans and rhubarb to peonies and orchids. Her yard was immaculately manicured, never a blade of grass out of place. Claire (or Mrs. D) was a frequent volunteer at Fuller Street Elementary. She worked tirelessly to help students improve their reading skills. The students she worked with held a special place in her heart. Mrs. D will be remembered fondly and missed by many.
Claire is survived by her children: Matthew (Cindy) Damm of Columbus, Kaye (Darren) Dosemagen of Pardeeville, and Charlotte (Jason) Doro of Portage, her seven grandchildren: Rachel, Colin, Molly, and Jamie Damm, Joe Dosemagen, and Olivia and Abby Doro, and her constant four-legged companion: Rags. She is further survived by her siblings: Andy Grebe of Fox Lake, Mariann (George Schmitz) Morgan of Virginia Beach, VA, Ferd (Barb) Grebe of Columbus, Angie (Jim) Mayr of Dundas, MN, Tom (Jodie) Grebe of Madison, and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers Greg and Connie Grebe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M., with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M., on Monday, February 8, 2021 at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH in East Bristol. Rev. Jared Holzhurer will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Columbus School District to support volunteer reading opportunities with children or the Columbia County Humane Society.
