He graduated from Elroy High School in 1957. In 1961 he received his Bachelor's Degree from UW-Platteville. While attending UW-Platteville, Dan met his future wife, Beth, when she came to Platteville to visit a high school friend. They were married on June 11, 1960.
Dan taught in the Fall River and Columbus School Districts for 35 years, spending most of those years as the 5th through 8th grade band director at Dickason School. After retiring from teaching in 1996, Dan embarked on a second career as a real estate agent with Century 21 in Columbus.
Over the years, Dan held leadership roles in Jaycees, Kiwanis, and the Country Ridge Condominiums Association. He was also a dedicated member of Columbus United Methodist Church, serving as the music director and on various church councils for many years.
Dan and Beth enjoyed many wonderful trips throughout the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. One of their favorite trips was to Rome to visit AFS foreign exchange son, Dario LaVeglia, and meet his family. Dan never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting people everywhere he went.
