Dennis
Green
Sep 16, 1943 — Nov 24, 2023
Dennis passed unexpectedly, but peacefully in the comfort of his home on Friday, November 24, 2023. He had spent Thanksgiving with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren eating venison and pumpkin pie just the day before, watching football and smoking a cigar. As we all knew Dennis, he wouldn't have wanted just a regular obituary! So, let's get to it… He was born in Columbus on September 16, 1943 to Benjamin and Golda (Schultz) Green. He grew up on the family farm and hard work was never anything that scared Dennis. He graduated from Columbus High School. He served in the U.S Army, finishing top of his class in completing Morri's code, which landed him his job in Germany during Vietnam, working with some of the highest ranked officers. (His version of this story was always better!)
Dennis worked for Mickelson's Feed Mill in Fall River for forever (seriously, I have no idea for how long, but definitely forever!) He always said it was never a job, it was more like a home away from home, where he gained a huge chosen family over the years! Working under Mickey and then taking Mark who he thought of as a son under his wing to pass on his knowledge (until more technology came out and Mark had to teach him! He hated that credit card machine!) He had many roles there throughout his time but his favorite and last was being the biggest BS'er, and razzer to all who came in (last day being the Wednesday before his passing!). As we remember these times we think of the front office and the bag of peanuts that were always available, and the kids coming in for a soda, a candy bar, or ice cream, his gruff voice that was always heartfelt with the fifty questions (many repeatedly to try to catch you up!). You could usually find his kids here sweeping or riding with him on bulk runs (even picking us up from school when sick in the bulk truck! (so embarrassing!)) or sitting in the truck while he was roasting beans! Towards the end he found enjoyment in teaching Quentin some of the ropes, including how to load trucks, and unload his truck on garbage day (mostly by directing him, with his smirk he always wore!).
Dennis was an avid golfer at Columbus Country Club, where he taught Morgan how to golf, attempted to teach Tina who especially failed (even at driving the cart, boy he was mad that day!). He played on Wednesday men's nights and countless Calcutta's on Sundays (pretty sure he took lots of dollars from his golfing buddies over the years).
Dennis was one of the best Euchre players that existed, playing at the Fireman's Tavern, The Resort, The Green Frog, Hard Heads, and JR's Bar, just to mention a few (This Tina was able to pick up on, but still never beat him! Numerous attempts were made!)
Hunting was one of his pleasures, he was avid and instilled this in his kids/grandkids. He passed on great knowledge and made so many memories for us and many to hold onto! He was so proud of Gauge and Levi's first deer shot! He would oversee/direct Morgan while cutting/grinding (which was hilarious!) because we are all pretty sure he has never gutted his own deer! Sending Tina through the swamp and pricker bushes was always something he got a kick out of! He was so proud that this year's opening weekend his son-in-law Erik shot a buck (under dad's direction, of course! if he wouldn't have, dad was giving his stand away or so he said).
Dennis enjoyed many sports, including placing friendly bets on the games, including watching his grandkids, Colton in all (even from the truck beeping the horn), Gauge and Levi in football/baseball, and Jenna in Volleyball! He has had many pets over the years, that he named after his children/grandchildren (Mork, Mindy, Marty, Mary, JennaLee, which we are pretty sure he did on purpose).
His family was always the most important thing to him, he was always there!
Some great memories we want to share and bring a smile to your face which is something Dennis was always able to do: "What's the line?" "How many points ya gonna give me?", "I bet you won't", "Tina: the sink is broke…there are dishes in it!", "Tina: hey its Monday…you know what that means…Kwik Trip has chicken on sale!", "Love ya, BYE", "she is your problem now!", "Jack" (Morgan), "oh Mrs. Jones" (Amber), "I got two words for you…Good-Bye", "What's the speed limit again?", "that damn lawnmowers broke again!", "Bye babe, stay outta trouble!", "Get the hell outta my chair!", "Get a haircut.", "you betcha", "do you owe me money?", This list can go on and on…but remember his famous fist pumps, and fist bumps, swerving at you while driving, and that Dennis never asked a question that he didn't already know the answer to, he was always testing you!
Survivors who will dearly miss him, daughter Tina (Erik) Servidone of Columbus; son Morgan (Amber) Jones of Columbus; chosen family Nancy Mickelson of Columbus, Mark (Peggy) Mickelson of Columbus; grandchildren Colton (Destiny) Roberts, Quentin Servidone, Jenna Servidone, Sean (Jaycy) Setzer, Gauge Jones, "The" Levi Jones, Zak Mickelson, Zoe Mickelson; great-grandchildren Aubrie, Rhettlea, and Ryiah; further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and tons of friends he has made through the years!
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Golda Green, brother Russell (Sharon) Green, Donald (Cookie) Green; sisters Mary (Rueben) Abegglen, Audrey (Robert) Whitecomb, special mentor Merwyn "Mickey" Mickelson, and many more friends lost, but not forgotten.
Dennis's family would like to extend a thank you to everyone including friends and family who has reached out and kept us in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, your stories and kindness has made this more bearable for us! We would like to thank the VA for all the care dad received over the years, and the Mickelson's Feed Family for all the stories and companionship.

"There are special people in our lives who never leave us, even after they are gone." Dad, we love you, you will be so missed not just by us but many, you touched so many lives with your presence, we hope as we move forward to be a little more like you, "Spare the Rod, Spoil the child".
As Dennis would say… "I gotta go someone's at the door!"
