FALL RIVER--Donald E. "Don" McKay, 89, of Fall River, WI, passed away on Thursday June 20, 2019 at Randolph Health & Services. Born in 1929, Don was the son of George and Thelma (Norton) McKay. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1948 and continued into the Farm and Industry Short Course in Madison, WI. Don was married to Leone E. "Onie" Stenberg on January 7, 1951, in Columbus, WI. Don loved fishing and shooting sports, both wild game and trapshooting, and was a founding member of the Fall River Rod and Gun Club. 51 years later, Don's passion and dedication has grown into a thriving organization. Don was also a loyal Wisconsin's sports fan, never failing to miss a Packers, Badgers, or Brewers game. Don and Onie operated the McKay family farm in Fountain Prairie/Fall River, WI throughout their working lives. Although Don officially retired from farming in 1990, he did not leave the fields, continuing to combine and moldboard plow with his son. Retirement also provided time for Don and Onie to reside at their lake house on the Minong Flowage, where Don's father and mother lived out their retirement. Don and Onie enjoyed hosting and entertaining their children and grandchildren at the lake house, making many special memories "up north". Later in life, Don found companionship through his good friend Lucie Lischka. Don and Lucie spent countless hours sharing meals, taking scenic drives in the countryside, and enjoying the occasional trip to HoChunk Casino. Don and Lucie continued to provide each other comfort and support, both residing at Randolph Health and Services. Don was a lifetime member of the St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church in Fall River, WI. Don was the last of his living family and is preceded in death by his wife Onie, his sisters Margaret Yerges, Marie Beardsley, Doris Walker, and three brothers Harold, Russel, and Wayne McKay. Survivors include his four sons: George (Linda) McKay of Minong, Tom (Mary) McKay of Fall River, Mark (Andrew Strambi) McKay of Fresno, CA, Glenn (Karen) McKay of Sun Prairie; his ten grandchildren: Troy (Fran) McKay, Matt (Michelle) McKay, Stacy (Aaron) Kraus, Sara Zuhlke, Heather (Eric) Schultz, Megan (Bob Bellin) McKay, Jenni (partner: Brad Sillman) McKay, Lauren, Colten, and Harlan McKay; four step-grandsons: Daniel, Samuel, Chase, and Tyler Ott; and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M., with visitation beginning at 9:00 A.M., on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Jensen Funeral & Cremation, 248 S. Ludington St., Columbus. Rev. Tim Gumm will officiate. Interment was in the Fountain Prairie Cemetery, Town of Fountain Prairie.
