Obituary

Doris G. Martens, age 90, died on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Randolph. She was born on June 18, 1925 in Fall River to Clarence and Alma (Schoenrock) Lienke. Doris was a 1943 graduate of Fall River High School. She was married to Wilbert Martens on April 8, 1948, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus. The couple farmed in the Town of Hampden where Doris was as skilled on a tractor as she was in her kitchen preparing a fine meal. They were active in their farming community and attended, or were members of, social events and homemakers clubs. Independent, passionate, frugal, yet generous in many ways, Doris was a kind soul with a great sense of humor who loved her family. She helped many over the years as a home caregiver. Doris served for years as the Town of Hampden treasurer and Hampden Cemetery sextant. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where she held several offices in the Zion Ladies Aid. Doris often had life challenge her, but she always returned the challenge. She kept busy being part of numerous card clubs, crafting, watching The Golden Girls, or spending hours stamp collecting. Family and friends loved her and will dearly miss her. Survivors include her three grandchildren: Pam (Karl) Goldbeck and their children, Josh, Matt and Nick all of Onalaska, Ben Martens of Onalaska, and Katie (Carter) Martens-Portillo of Slidell LA as well as nieces, nephews, special friends Nancy and Dave Huebner, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wilbert in 1971, son Kenneth "Marty" in 2006; sister Gladys Winge in 2004. Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M., with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at ZION EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH in Columbus immediately followed by a luncheon. Rev. Robert Wilke officiated. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery, Columbus. Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid, Zion Lutheran Church General Fund, or a charity of one's choice. A special thank you is given to Dr. Bruce Kraus, nurses and staff at Golden Living, nurses at Hillside Hospice, especially Mareta, and Pastor Wilke and Pastor Sims for their visits and prayers, and Tim Jensen and his wife at Jensen Funeral & Cremation.
