Dorothy (Grossen)
Stark
d. May 2, 2023
COLUMBUS—Dorothy (Grossen) Stark was right where she wanted to be, at home surrounded by all her children, when she passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. She was born on June 16, 1929 in Fond du Lac, the first daughter of John and Agnes Grossen. Dorothy graduated from Reeseville High School and soon after married her first love, Gilbert Stark Sr., on June 26, 1948.
Dorothy and "Gib" had a very busy life, working a dairy farm just outside of Columbus, along with raising seven children. There was never a dull moment in the household. Not sure where she found the time, but in addition to being an excellent cook, Dorothy made the best homemade jams, ice cream, English toffee and Spanish peanut bars. Every batch was "the best ever."
Mother had many loves, but the greatest was her family and friends. She always found time to visit daily with everyone, sometimes several times a day. Holiday dinners were always at the home farm.
Dorothy is survived by six children Darlene (Mike) Cutsforth of Rio, Sharon (Tom) Goeller of Horicon, John (Becky) Stark of Columbus, Gilbert "Buzz" Stark Jr. of Columbus, Rita Schears of Waupun, Ronald (Shu) Stark of Somonauk, IL; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a very special nephew and niece Bob and Sue Kath; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gib in 2007; a daughter Renee Lyon; sister Arleda Dittmer and son-in-law Jerry Schears.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., with visitation beginning at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at COLUMBUS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Columbus. Rev. Sang Wook Park will officiate. Private family interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Columbus.
If desired, memorials in Dorothy's name may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Boys Town, Omaha, NE.
Dorothy's family will be forever grateful for the exceptional care and compassion she received from Dr. Sam Poser, Dr. Rolf Poser, the staff at Prairie Ridge Hospital, Columbus and Randolph Health Services and Assisted Living.
