Obituary

Floyd E. Hasey, age 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at his home, per his wishes, surrounded by loving family and friends. His courage in death was only surpassed by his strength, his devotion, and the love he had shown throughout his life. Floyd was born on August 27, 1923 on the family farm in the Town of Hampden, to Fred and Hattie (Brewer) Hasey, where he lived until retirement, enjoying the hard work of farm life. He was a 1941 graduate of Columbus High School and started farming on the family homestead shortly after. Floyd was married to Dorothy Bennett on September 7, 1957 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rio. Floyd's passion was his family, the soil he tilled, and the livestock he raised – he would not rest until all were tended to, spending every waking hour meeting their needs (his first day off was their 25th wedding anniversary). His compassion was unsurpassed and Floyd would always help a neighbor in need. A quiet, thoughtful man of few words; when he voiced his opinion, it was important, heartfelt and wise. Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy of Columbus; three sons, James (Jimmie Walker) of Beaver Dam, Tim (Kay Caldwell) of Cottage Grove and Ryan (Lisa) of Columbus; two grandchildren, Kayla and Mitchell; a sister, Irene Moore of Fall River; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold. Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at SPRING PRAIRIE LUTHERAN CHURCH, Keyser. Pastor Sylvia Lee-Thompson and Pastor Brent Walsworth co-officiated. Interment was in the Hampden Cemetery. Visitation was from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Friday, December 18 at the Jensen funeral home in Columbus, and from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the church on Saturday. The family would like to give special thanks to his at-home caregivers: Celina, Mary, Bonnie, Maria, Alecia and Maggie, to whom we are eternally grateful for making Dad's last days at home, ones with kindness, smiles, compassion and dignity. Memorials may be directed to Spring Prairie Lutheran Church, United In Christ Lutheran Church in
Morrisonville or Columbus Community Hospital.
