Obituary

Gordon Elvin Ehlers (Gordie), age 64 died on December 30th, 2025. Gordon was born in Neillsville Wisconsin, just 10 miles from his family farm. Gordon was the youngest of seven children born to Eugene and Mildred (Maher) Ehlers.

Shortly after he was born, his family moved to Columbus, Wisconsin where his father operated Ehlers Mobil Service Station (now 'The Garage'). Gordon attended school in Columbus, and graduated from CHS. Like his brothers, one of his loves was spending time at 'The Station'. Helping his dad, and learning many mechanical skills that served him well throughout his life. From bicycles, and mini-bikes to vintage cars, Gordon drove, maintained and loved each one – however his favorite was his mom's Cadillac. After high school, Gordon attended MATC (Madison College) where he was trained in Construction which helped him join Operators Union #139 becoming a Journeyman. Gordon enjoyed working and being outside and each project brought new challenges and opportunities. Whether landscaping, pipeline construction, crane work or just home gardening, Gordie loved nature. Having been born on 'The Family Farm', but not getting to spend much time exploring it during his early years, he tried to make up for that later in life. Some of his best days were walking through the wooded land along the Black River; fishing, deer hunting, camping, and just hanging out at the farm with his son Casey.

Gordie married Linda Jorgensen on July 14th, 2018. On their honeymoon to Oregon, Gordie experienced firsthand the grandeur of redwoods, the beautiful Pacific Ocean coastline, and vastness of the Pacific Northwest.

Gordie and his wife Linda lived in Sun Prairie. Gordie is survived by Linda; his son Casey (Amanda) Ehlers; step-children Craig Jorgensen, Beth (Bryan) Dishman; grandchildren Hannah Kopmeyer, Myles Kopmeyer; brothers Brownie (Shelley Weiss) Ehlers, Donald (Charlotte) Ehlers; sisters Doris (Rodd) Schmitt; Ruth (Ken Ruggles) Ehlers; and a host of many wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. For Gordie his days spent with his brothers and sisters always brought joy to his heart and a smile to his face. He loved his family.

Gordie was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers John and Roger Ehlers.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at noon on Saturday, January 24th, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. at Olivet Congregational Church in Columbus. Rev. Sandra Schieble will officiate.

Memorials may be directed to the Olivet Congregational Church, the University of Wisconsin Hospital, the Columbus 4th of July Committee, or a local AA organization.

Gordon's family extends its gratitude to the Sun Prairie First Responders, and doctors and nurses providing great care at the University of Madison Hospital.
