Obituary

Our brother, uncle, and friend, Gordon A. Hoppe, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the age of 87. He was born on February 26, 1931 to Alvin and Evelyn (Sorg) Hoppe and was the oldest of four children. Gordon attended Columbus High School where he lettered in Football, Baseball, Basketball and Track, graduating in 1949. He received a bachelor's degree in Commercial Merchandising from UW-Madison in 1954. Directly after college, he served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1958, where he became a pilot. He received his commercial pilot license in 1959 and served in the National Guard from 1958 to 1963. Following his service, he flew helicopters for independent oil rig companies and went on to farm the Hoppe homestead in Columbus. In his younger years, Gordon was an avid bowler. He was known for his simple living standards, goofy sense of humor and loved hunting "for the elusive 30 pointer" and fishing every chance he could get. Per Gordon's wishes, a memorial service will not be held. Thank you to all his friends and family that attended his birthday party earlier this year. Gordon said, "It was the best birthday ever! Thank You!"
