Jack Graham
Schumann
Jan 11, 1936 — Jul 13, 2026
Columbus
Jack Graham Schumann, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Prairie Ridge Health in Columbus, Wisconsin.
Jack was born on January 11, 1936 in Tomahawk, Wisconsin to Chester William Schumann and Lorraine Nora (Sutliff) Schumann. As the son of a paper mill employee, Jack developed an appreciation for paper and print at an early age. He delivered newspapers in Rhinelander as a young boy and was recognized as Newspaper Boy of the Year, an honor he remained proud of throughout his life.
His passion for print led him to study printing at Dunwoody Institute before beginning his career at Webcrafters in Madison, Wisconsin. It was there that he honed his craft, gained confidence in the industry, and began dreaming of building a print shop of his own.
Jack married his high school sweetheart, Arlene Marie Hanson, and together they shared over 70 years of marriage. In those early years, Arlene worked to help support Jack as he pursued his dream, and her dedication played a vital role in making it possible. They raised three sons, built a family they cherished, and stood beside one another through every season of life. Their partnership was the foundation for everything they built together.
In 1963, Jack and Arlene founded what would one day become Schumann Printers, Inc., in the basement of their home on Kane Street in Fall River, Wisconsin. What began as a neighborhood print shop grew into one of the Midwest's leading commercial printers, providing careers for generations of families and becoming a valued part of the community. Jack loved the smell of fresh ink, the hum of the presses, and the people who brought the work to life.
Jack was endlessly curious. He liked to call himself a contrarian because he believed there was almost always another way to see the world. He was an adventurer at heart, happiest riding his bicycle, cruising on his motorcycle, flying airplanes, taking photographs, or admiring a well-designed automobile.
He also appreciated life's quieter moments. At the family lodge, Jack could often be found sitting on the porch with a radio nearby, watching nature unfold. He loved listening to music, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and spending time with the people he loved most.
Jack's greatest legacy was never simply the company he built. It was the people he believed in. He leaves behind a family who adored him, generations of employees who were grateful to call him their boss, mentor, and friend, and a community forever shaped by his vision, generosity, and the belief that hard work and integrity could create something that would last.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Arlene Marie Hanson Schumann; his three sons, Mark Arthur Schumann (Josephine Ann Alioto Schumann), Daniel Chester Schumann (Jill Ann Rubert Schumann), Eric Graham Schumann; his four grandchildren, Spencer John Schumann, Brooke Ellyn Schumann, Anthony David Schumann (Jenna Sether Schumann), Paige Ann Schumann; his great-grandson, Vincent Daniel Schumann; his sister, Jeanne Mary Schumann Papania (Joseph Michael Papania); his brothers, James Robert Schumann (Sharon Ann Kirchberg Schumann) and David Joseph Schumann; his sisters-in-law, Janice Eva Bergman Schumann and Kristine Ann Lauterman Schumann; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Chester William Schumann and Lorraine Nora (Sutliff) Schumann; his three brothers, Michael Warren Schumann and his wife, Arlene Mae (Erickson) Schumann, William Farrell Schumann, and Patrick Edward Schumann; his daughter-in-law, Kristin R. (Kohlwey) Schumann.
