Obituary

Jean Weiss joined the angels on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. Up to the last minute of her 93 years she was enjoying visits with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives and friends. Jean joins her parents, Lincoln and Eleanor (Moul) Hammond, her sister, Charleen Forsyth, and brother, Richard Hammond, relatives and friends in Heaven. Left behind to enjoy memories of good times with Jean are her husband, Willard J. Weiss, daughters, Rhonda Jane Warren, Shelley Joan Weiss (Brownie Ehlers), Jillann Jennifer (Robert) Keip, and son, Bradley Joseph Weiss (Naomi Van Auken). Jean was born and spent her early years in South Dakota. After graduating from Redfield High School, where she met her future husband Willard, she went to college at South Dakota State University in Brookings and continued to learn throughout life and infused the love of learning in her children. After moving around the country with her husband in the Army, the family settled in Columbus Wisconsin where Jean spent the remainder of her life. She always kept in touch with friends from around the country. Jean loved traveling, shopping, listening to books on tape, cheering on the Badgers and Packers, and being with family and friends. She was proud of the accomplishments of her family and her work at Cenex and Sears where she had many friends. Jean was a talented cross stitch artist. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Moon Glo Homemakers group. Although legally blind, Jean did not allow that to hinder her enjoying a full life. She was always up for an adventure! Jean loved to reminisce about her younger days in South Dakota, traveling with Willard in the U.S. Army, and airstreaming with her family around the country. She enjoyed celebrating her life and the lives of her children, Rhonda, Jillann, Bradley, and Shelley, her grandchildren, Miranda, Lindsay, Christian, Nora, and Maxwell, and most recently her three great grandchildren, Bridger, Bowie, and Remy. Jean was a kind, generous, supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She provided an exceptional model of the values of positivity, good work, determination, overcoming obstacles, and love of life! Jean will be missed by family and friends.
