Jerome A. "Jerry" Kasper, age 70, was born, raised and lived in Columbus, WI until his death on Tuesday, August 25, 2015. He leaves his devoted wife, Eleanor "Joan" (Aurit) Kasper, of 49 years. They have three children and seven grandchildren: son, Rob and wife Dana and granddaughters Madison and Merrick of Columbus, OH; son, Todd and wife Jen and granddaughters Holly, Katherine, Julia, Annelise, and grandson Hans of Platteville, WI; and daughter, Renee of Delafield. He also leaves two sisters, Eleanor (Ali) Soldner of Reeseville and Lorraine (Ron) Durst of Columbus; sister-in-law, Judy Kasper of Sun Prairie; many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Coletta (Leech) Kasper and his brother, Roger. Jerry was raised on a farm outside of Columbus. He and his brother Roger owned and operated Kasper Bros. Sand & Gravel of Columbus/Sun Prairie. The last half of his career was spent with Richards' Insurance in Columbus. From farming to construction to insurance, Jerry retired doing a combination of them all – the farmers he served were his most-treasured clients in the twilight of his career. Jerry's faith and involvement in the Catholic Church were notable. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Bristol and St. Jerome Parish in Columbus. He was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus: Council No. 1609 in Columbus; the Fourth Degree Christopher Columbus Assembly No. 2275; and Master of the Fourth Degree Western Wisconsin District from 1992 to 1996. An active member in the community, Jerry was always there to help a neighbor in need. Bringing gifts in the form of volunteer work, flowers and vegetables from his garden, or as Santa Claus for 52 years, he brought comfort and smiles to those hearts he touched. He cherished time with neighbors and friends hosting many in his garage and patio. Adding to his most-precious gifts were his grandchildren: his proudest moments were being part of their achievements and fun times. Visitation was from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, August 31, 2015 at ST. JEROME CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1550 Farnham St, Columbus. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:30 A.M., with visitation beginning at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, September 1, at ST JEROME CATHOLIC CHURCH. Rev. Steve Kortendick and Rev. William Hower concelebrated. Memorials may be made to St. Jerome School or Rainbow Hospice Care, 1225 Remmel Drive, Johnson Creek, WI, 53094. The Kasper family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Sam Poser, the fourth floor nursing staff at Columbus Community Hospital, Columbus Care Center, the staff at Rainbow Hospice Center, and the many friends and family who supported him.
