FOND DU LAC--Jim Wood age 66, died on August 4, 2018 at his home. Jim was born December 29, 1951 in Albert Lea, Minnesota the son of Jack and Lorna (Barnes) Wood. Jim graduated from Columbus High School in 1970. He enlisted in the Navy and received machinist training and then became an engine mechanic based in San Francisco. Jim married Debbie Wing in 1972, welcoming their son Eric into the world in 1974. Jim was married to Rose VandeBrink in 1989. Jim worked at Stainless Steel Fabricating in Columbus from 1977 to 1996 as a welder and assembler. He joined Marchant Schmidt in Fond du Lac in 1996 and worked for them until his retirement in December 2017. Jim was a hard worker, meticulous and well liked by his coworkers. Jim was an outdoor enthusiast, as he loved to fish, hunt and do anything related to being in the outdoors. Survivors include his son Eric (Kristina) Wood of Madison of whom he was very proud; granddaughter Sheldon Marie Wood, of Fond du Lac; step daughter Elizabeth (Paul) Swan and step-grandson Evan Swan of Beaver Dam; one brother Jack (Catherine) Wood of Wilmington, NC; one sister Alice (John) Gibson of Columbus; nieces and nephews Carmen, Clinton, Maggie Brockmiller, Brian and Chip Wood. Jim was preceded in death by his father Jack Wood and mother Lorna Jones and stepfather David Jones. Jim will be greatly missed by his family. In lieu of flowers please make donations to VETPAW or to a charitable organization of your choice in Jim's memory. A memorial service was held at 11:00 A.M., on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, visitation began at 10:00 A.M. at JENSEN FUNERAL & CREMATION, Pastor Tom Flaherty from City Church in Madison officiated. Military honors followed. Inurnment will be next to his parents in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, South Dakota at a later date.
