Kurt A.
Brockel
Nov 19, 1970 — Nov 2, 2024
Ferryville
Kurt A. Brockel, age 53, died unexpectedly at his family's cottage in Ferryville, WI on Saturday, November 2, 2024. He was born on November 19, 1970, to Robert and Susan (Hampton) Brockel in Madison, WI.
Kurt graduated from Columbus High School in 1989. In 1992, Kurt began his first long-term career with Robbins Manufacturing where he worked his way to becoming a senior engineer. In 2021, Kurt transitioned to Roberts Manufacturing as the engineering and quoting manager. Outside of work, his kids were his life. Kurt never missed a school or sporting event, which at one point even included driving to Nebraska and back in a day. He was also heavily involved in coaching youth sports in Columbus such as football and baseball as well as often volunteering at the MacKenzie Center where he could be seen driving his golf cart around. Kurt was a kind, loving, and even stubborn individual who always put others before himself.
Towards the end of his life, Kurt spent every weekend at the cottage. Kurt loved hunting and fishing, especially with his son and daughter. Some of his other favorite things in life included watching his daughter, Lydia, get married; showing off his granddaughter, Olive; talking farm life with his son-in-law, Connor; family dinners with his parents and brother, Kasey; taking his dogs for rides in the truck; gossiping with his future daughter-in-law, Krystal; and sunrises in the duck blind with his son, Wyatt.
Kurt is survived by his parents Robert and Susan Brockel of Rio; brother Kasey Brockel of Rio; son Wyatt (Krystal) Brockel of La Crosse; daughter Lydia (Connor) Schleicher of Columbus; granddaughter Olive Schleicher of Columbus; his two dogs Wilma and Fern; as well as other relatives and friends.
Kurt is preceded in death by his grandparents Julius and Clara Brockel and Fred and Lela Hampton.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00 P.M. with a gathering continuing until 5:00 P.M. on November 23 at the Columbus Country Club.
A special thank you to the Crawford County Sheriff's Department, and to Steve and Fran Johnson.
