Lois Jane
Benck
Mar 24, 1929 — Aug 2, 2026
Fall River
Lois Jane (Clark) Benck, age 97, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at The Meadows of Fall River Assisted Living in Fall River. She was born at home on March 24, 1929 in Grant Park, Illinois to Henry Hackley Clark and Matilda "Tilly" Elizabeth (Bruck) Clark. She joined her older sisters Marge, Garnita "Sis" and Thelma "Sal" at home. Her brother Charles Henry died prior to Lois's birth and Robert's birth completed the family as the youngest. Lois attended Grant Park High School where she met her soon-to-be-husband, Chester Rudolph Benck, a hired man for a neighboring farmer. They were soon married on January 25, 1948.
Lois and Chester started their own family when Susan was born in November, 1948. Barbara, Crystal and Marge all followed, all born in Kankakee, IL. Chester continued as a hired farm hand while Lois raised their girls, taking in other children to care for, as well. Carl was born not long after Marge. The family moved to Lowell, Indiana, where Chester was working on a rented farm. In January of 1963, Lois and Chester bought a farm in the Township of Fountain Prairie, Fall River, Wisconsin. They adopted two young girls, Debbie and Jane, to make their family complete.
The entire family worked hard on the family farm and attended St. Stephen's Church, where Lois belonged to the Ladies Aid and sang in the choir. She was on the Fall River School Board, taking an interest in her children's education. Lois also bowled at The Resort with "the Grannys." She and her friends loved playing against their daughters, often dressing up in costumes whenever they played against each other.
Lois's legacy was her family. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, including Sydney, Maddy, Jackson and Kelly. And she was so proud to meet her newest, great, great grandson, Nico.
After a time, Lois and Chester moved to The Meadows, where they met many wonderful friends and neighbors. It was there, where they both lived out their lives.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Chester in November of 2016; her parents; her siblings, Marge, Sis, Sal, Charles, and Robert; two daughters, Susan Klug and Barbara Waterworth. She is survived by her children Crystal (Tim) Birkenstock, Marge (Dan) Abegglen, Carl (Sue) Benck and Jane (Dean) Berger; 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at ST. STEPHEN'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Fall River. Rev. Anthony Straseske will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Fall River Cemetery, Fall River. Memorials may be directed to The Meadows of Fall River in Lois's memory.
