Lyle S. Sampson age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Columbus Health & Rehab Center. He was born on August 6, 1931 in Madison to Lyle and Anna (Wigsmoen) Sampson. Lyle graduated from Stoughton High School. He attended UW-Madison where he studied pharmacology. Lyle then served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. After his service, he finished at UW-Madison earning a BS in pharmacology. Lyle was married to Joanne Davis on June 30, 1957 in Middleton. Lyle owned and operated Sampson Pharmacy in Columbus from 1968 until 2001. He was an active, community-minded Columbus resident where he served on numerous committees and projects over many decades. Lyle was a member of Rotary International and was a dedicated and founding member of Faith Lutheran Church and member of it's choir. Survivors include his wife, Joanne of Columbus; a daughter Christine (Daniel) Weatherman of Robbinsdale MN and a son Eric (Michelle) of McFarland; four grandchildren, Alexander Weatherman, Jacob, Tyler and Elizabeth Sampson; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin-sister Lois Spahn and brother, Burgess. Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 120 Faith Drive, Columbus. Rev. Robert V. Moberg and Rev. Lisa Nelson co-officiated. Military honors followed by the VFW Post 62. Visitation was from 4:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. on Friday at the church and from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the church on Saturday. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery, Columbus. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Columbus Community Hospital Foundation or the charity of one's choice.
