Marcella J. Powers age 100 died on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at her home. Marcella was born on January 1, 1912 in Fall River to Thomas and Agnes (Kasmiski) Powers. She graduated from Columbia County Normal Teacher's College and taught in a one-room school for seven years. She was married to F. Adrian Powers on June 26, 1937 in Columbus. Marcella and Adrian began their life together and business in Lowell, where they raised their six children. All of her life she participated in community affairs, serving on the school board and helping with the annual Lowell Fireman's Picnic. Marcella's faith served her well. She was a member of St. Jerome Church. Holiday's were a joyous occasion with much fanfare. Marcella was an excellent homemaker, bridge player, Braves/Brewers fan and kept abreast of current events. Mardy's sisters were an integral part of her life, conversation was lively and laughter robust. Survivors include one son, Adrian (Jane) of Columbus; three daughters, Marie (Gary) Walter of Houston MN, Barbara (Jon) Zimbric of Waunakee, Colleen (Shary) Powers of Albuquerque NM; daughter-in-law, Judianne Powers of Reeseville; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1998; two sons, Brian in 1961 and Stephen "Rudy" in 2011; five sisters, Mary Zilg, Cecelia Powers, Loretta Daley, Florence Daley, Irene Roche. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:30 A.M. on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at ST. JEROME CATHOLIC CHURCH, Columbus. Rev. Steve Kortendick officiated. Interment was in St. Columbkille Cemtery, Town of Elba. Visitation was from 10:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to Hillside Hospice or Lymphoma cancer research.
