Columbus
Columbus – Marilyn M. Grueneberg, age 84, died peacefully in her sleep at Home Again, Columbus on Sunday, June 1, 2025. She was born on September 7, 1940, in Columbus to Walter and Viola (Zimmerman) Yerges. She was married to Raymond W Grueneberg on September 15, 1962 in Columbus and together they had three children.
Marilyn worked for several years at Farmers & Merchants Union Bank as a bank teller but left the bank to pursue her dream of owning Marilyn's Magic Mud Shoppe. Her creativity and passion for ceramics started with holding classes in the basement of her home and then moved to a store front in downtown Columbus. After a few years, Marilyn returned to Farmers & Merchants Union Bank as a teller where she retired at the age of 65.
Marilyn continued to create beautiful art by stamping cards and making scrapbooks. She also enjoyed meeting up with her friends at the Columbus Community Center every Wednesday for crocheting. This is where the Happy Hookers group was formed, crocheting/knitting beautiful hats, gloves and blankets for Project Linus and area hospitals. As a lifelong resident of Columbus, Marilyn valued her many, lifelong friendships. She especially valued the time spent with her close-knit relatives, often sharing how important family was to her. She will be missed by many.
Survivors include three children; Tracy (Mike) McNulty of Columbus, Jeff Grueneberg of Waukesha and Ann (Chris) Romanoski of Akron OH; two grandsons; Andrew (Rebecca) McNulty and Nicholas (Ryan Elliott) Romanoski; two great grandchildren; Samuel and Madeline McNulty, brother-in-law Bill (Mary) Grueneberg of Indianapolis IN along with numerous relatives and friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond in 2021, brother and sister-in-law Dale (RoseMary) Yerges, sister and brother-in-law Janice (Don) Schumacher and sister and brother-in-law Betty Lou (Art) Bissonette.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, Columbus. Rev. Ben Zuberbier will officiate. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Columbus.
