SUN PRAIRIE/COLUMBUS—Paul H. Durst age 94, passed on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the At Home Again Assisted Living in Columbus. He was born in Cameron, WI on January 13, 1920 to Lawrence and Sophie (Louis) Durst. Exactly 22 years later, he was married to the love of his life, Irene H. Ringelstetter at St. John's Catholic Church in Spring Green. Paul began his working career as a carpenter and later served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He also spent time working as a janitor/maintenance man and as an electronic repairman. During Paul's life, he discovered lifelong passions for many things, such as travel, airplanes and even designing and building his own model train set. He also found pleasure in the simple aspects of his life, like tinkering in the garage and spending time at his cabin up on the Ridge. Above all, he was a man of great faith. He took part in multiple bible study classes and always found a fascination with the Lord's word. Amongst everything, he was a dedicated family man with many friends he could share stories with. If one could sum him up in a statement it would be, admired by many, loved by all. Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Lorraine) and Eugene (Lorilynne Lawson); five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Karen) Durst, Julie (Timothy) O'Connell, Jodi (Richard) Koller, Evan Durst and Ryan Durst; eight great grandchildren, Brittany, Megan, Allison Durst, Ashley (Mark) Henrekin, Hannah and Ben O'Connell, Brady and Emily Koller; one sister, Caroline Alt; a sister-in-law, Anita Durst; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife; brother, Louis; brother-in-law, Andy Alt. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 A.M., with visitation beginning at 9:30 A.M., on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at ST JEROME CATHOLIC CHURCH, Columbus. Rev. Steve Kortendick officiated. Interment was in Sun Prairie Memory Gardens, Sun Prairie with full military honors. The family would like to thank the staff of At Home Again, Dr. Larson and St. Jude Hospice.
