Peter J. "Pete" Gasser, age 71, was welcomed into his heavenly home after a long illness on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Avina Skilled Nursing Facility of Sun Prairie. He was born on March 22, 1955, in Baraboo to Wallace and Jeanne (Reynolds) Swets. After the death of his father, his mother, Jeanne, married Donald Gasser.

Pete graduated from Lodi High School in 1973 and attended MATC for Police Science. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice at Concordia University. Pete spent his career in public service and working in law enforcement. Pete had a natural gift to connect with others that experienced challenges in life. He served in numerous positions including as a police officer, correctional officer, probation and parole officer and later in private security.

He was married to Lori Link on April 28, 1984, at Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus. Together they enjoyed traveling, which included several trips to Africa. Pete enjoyed fishing, whether it was in Key West, Hawaii, or with his close friends musky fishing in Northern Wisconsin. In the winter months, Pete and Lori spent time in Arizona visiting with family and friends.

Pete was known for helping others and sharing his vast knowledge about hunting and fishing. He had a knack for sharing stories of work experiences and his travel adventures.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Lori of Columbus; two brothers, Paul (Sue) Gasser of Tomah and Brian (Trish) Gasser of Lodi; brother-in-law, Don Link of Beaver Dam; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Jeanne and Wallace, and stepfather, Don and his father and mother-in-law Lawrence and Lucia Link.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Lake Wisconsin Evangelical Free Church, N1640 Ryan Rd, Lodi, WI. A visitation will be held an hour before the service at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Hunter Newton will officiate. Family and friends are invited for a meal following the service. A private inurnment will be in Garden Bluff Cemetery, Town of West Point, at a later date.
