Robert "Bob"
Robbins
d. May 12, 2022
FALL RIVER—Robert R. "Bob" Robbins age 89, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Prairie Ridge Health, Columbus. He was born on September 1, 1932 in Waupun to Bernard and Loviala (Armga) Robbins. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1955 during the Korean War. Bob was married to Jane Beattie. From 1955 until 1996 he was supervisor and later president of the Fall River Foundry Group in Fall River. Bob served on the Fall River School District School Board, Fountain Prairie Township board, board of directors for Kirsh Foundries in Beaver Dam and the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation board of directors. Bob was a member of the Masonic Lodge #75 F&M. He flew to Washington DC in May of 2014 with the Badger Honor Flight.
Bob was an accomplished foundryman and was recognized in 1996 for his 40 years of service and contributions to the industry by the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Foundrymen's Society.
Bob's love for the land and farming started at an early age with him spending time during the summers at his Uncle John's farm in Waupun. After he and Jane were married Bob took over farming Jane's grandparents farm. In 1962, Bob and Jane purchased the Reese farm and over the years along with their son Scott purchased additional lands to eventually form Stonybrook Land and Cattle. With decades long help from Al Rupnow as farm manager and Dale Wendt assisting with the daily activities the farm has continued to grow. In his later years Bob became a windshield farmer and enjoyed traveling around the farms to see the progress and fruits of their labor. He was a green and yellow fan....of John Deere.
Bob enjoyed spending summer vacations and weekends camping at Jordan Lake passing down those traditions to his children and grandchildren. Lifelong friendships were formed with the Nemitz and Brown families that included group vacations at Jordan Lake for many decades. Fishing and water skiing were Jordan Lake pastimes. Bob, along with Dick Nemitz and John Brown, were excellent water skiers. The three families spent many hours together in the 50s, 60s and beyond. Years later Bob and Jane would purchase a lake home on McGinnis Lake for their family to enjoy which continues yet today.
Family vacations were important to Bob. Trips west to Montana and the Dakotas along with travels to The Smokies were enjoyed as a family. Other trips to Las Vegas, California and Norway were enjoyed after the kids were grown. Bob kept in touch with his Army buddies for decades and visited some of them annually. For many years Bob looked forward to his annual fishing and hunting trips to Canada, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, the Dakotas and other states. His close friends Ray Wiegel, John Brown and Don Gumm were his sidekicks. He was an avid deer hunter on the farm and up until recently he was still hunting. Bob enjoyed visiting, spending time and playing cards with his neighbors, the Yohns, O'brions, Neuhoffs and Dykstras. Winters you would find him and Jane spending time in Florida with the Rowoldts. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and activities. He was a lifelong supporter of many social and civic groups and often volunteered his time.
Survivors include his wife Jane of Columbus; four children Marty (Martha) of Eagle River, Guy (Debra) of Fall River, Scott (Eileen) of Fall River, Sandy (Chris) Agnew of Fall River; AFS son Trygve Lea of Norway; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren & one due this summer; sister Bevalee Hilbert of Columbus; three sisters-in-law Sally Price, Ruthie Juech and Karen Beattie; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
