Obituary

Roger Grossman, age 87, passed away peacefully at UW Hospital, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, October 11 due to complications following a stroke.  Roger was born in Columbus, WI on May 4, 1936, to Edward and Lydia (Karow) Grossman.  Roger graduated from Columbus High School with the Class of 1954.

Roger served in the US Air Force for 4 years and had a 35-year career working for the State of Wisconsin.  Roger also served the City of Columbus as alderperson, including many years as Council President, and served on the Police and Fire Commission and Board of Review.  He was a long-standing member of St. Jerome Catholic church.

Family, friends, and fun were the things most important to Roger and when Roger was around, fun most often followed.  He loved to dance (polka was his favorite), play cards, shake dice, work crossword puzzles - in ink, cheer on the Badgers, Packers, and Brewers, and enjoy a cocktail, or two, or more.

Roger was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Elaine (Ott); 4 daughters Michelle (George) Andler, Teresa (Paul) Hermanson, Pam (Dennis) Ryan and Deb (Mark) Jahnke; grandchildren Max (Jackie) Andler, Molly (John) Gerhardt, Hanna (Mak Knox) Hermanson, Jake (special friend Eimy) Hermanson, Natalie Ryan, Paige Ryan, Mark Jahnke Jr and Andrew Jahnke; four great grandsons Maximus, Henry and Russell Andler, and Otto Gerhardt.  Roger also leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law Vern and Gloria Ott, many nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues that loved him.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Norman and Clyde, infant sister Betty Jean, infant granddaughter Macy Hermanson, many other relatives, and wonderful friends.

The family wants to express sincere thanks and appreciation to the wonderful nurses and doctors at UW Hospital who cared for Roger during his time there.  They all worked so hard for and with him and took good care of us too.

Roger's fun-loving nature, kindness, quick smile, and mischievous twinkle in his eye will be missed, but his soul and legacy live on in all he leaves behind.

With much love and gratitude, until we see you again Dad, Cheers!
