Rosetta Marie "Rosie" Weisensel, age 82, of Columbus, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015, at At Home Again Assisted Living in Columbus after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, maintaining a positive and upbeat attitude each and every day. Rosie was born on May 22, 1933 in the Town of Bristol to Otto and Luetta (Lessner) Ott. She was a 1952 graduate of Columbus High School where she was a proud drum majorette. She was married to Ignatius "Pete" Weisensel on October 8, 1955 at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Columbus and their marriage was blessed with four children, Tom, Sue, Kathy and Mary. Rosie was employed by Wisconsin Bell telephone company and The Highlander Center but for most of her employment life worked at ShopKo of Beaver Dam where she was a loyal employee for over 30 years. Rosie and Pete found much joy in spending time together bowling, camping and traveling with ventures including Alaska, Hawaii and various bus trips with friends. They also spent many hours laughing and making memories while simply enjoying time with friends. Rosie spent many hours crocheting and working at her sewing machine making outfits for her children and herself as well as projects for the fabric department at ShopKo. Rosie and Pete were their grandchildren's biggest fans, rarely missing a sporting, music or other activity their grandchildren participated in. She was also a loyal Brewer fan who rarely missed a game on TV no matter where she was. Rosie is an active member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and very much enjoyed the weekday masses and GrandBuddy program with the children of St. Jerome School. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Pete; one son, Tom (Michele) Weisensel; two daughters, Kathy (Ron) Kast and Mary (Daren) Benisch, all of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Hunter Weisensel, Chase Weisensel, Ashley (Sean) Meyer, Adam (Ashley) Kast, Aaron Kast, Amanda (Ryan) Kartos, Alexa Benisch (special friend, Travis Johnson); two great-grandsons, Dean and Tucker Kast who were the apple of her eye; one sister, Elaine (Roger) Grossman of Columbus; one brother, Vernon (Gloria) Ott of Dodgeville; many other relatives, in-laws and friends. Rosie was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Weisensel, in 1982; her parents; a sister, Norma Ott and a brother, Reinold Ott; several relatives, in-laws and friends. Being married for 60 years, Rosie and Pete were the definition of faith, hope, love, family, dedication and what marriage vows are all about. Through it all, the good times and the bad, their primary focus was always each other. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at ST. JEROME CATHOLIC CHURCH, Columbus. Rev. Steve Kortendick officiated. Interment was in St. Jerome Cemetery, Columbus on May 22. Visitation was from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Jensen funeral home, and from 10:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. at the church on Wednesday. The family would like to thank the many medical institutions and staff who so tenderly cared for Rosie and appreciated her witty sense of humor. Sincere heartfelt thanks and appreciation are given and will always remain with the staff of At Home Again Assisted Living. It is because of the exceptional care these caregivers provide, combined with the dignity and grace they show, that Rosie and Pete could be together until her last breath. We, their children, will be eternally grateful to each and every one of you for all you have done and all you continue to do.
