Russell F. Seier, age 79, passed away at home on Monday, September 30, 2013. Russ was born in the Town of Fountain Prairie on September 10, 1934 to Clarence and Lucille (Piechekoski) Seier. He was a graduate of Columbus High School and served in the U.S. Army. Russ owned Badger Masonry Inc. for almost 40 years. Following his retirement, he remained active by donating his time to various community projects including the creation of Avalon Park, improvements at Fireman's Park, and the Zion Lutheran School sign. Russ volunteered many hours at the Columbus Country Club working on the grounds and assisting with the youth golf program. He enjoyed playing golf with his grandsons and good friend Donald Dunning. Sports were a major interest in his life and Russ was an avid supporter of the Columbus Cardinals. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Judith; two children, Suzanne (Bruce) Zahn and Michael Seier; four grandchildren, Austin, Alexander, Andrew and Adam Zahn; a sister, Joan Lee; a sister-in-law, Evelyn "Carol" Seier; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Raymond; a brother-in-law, Donald Lee. A private Christian graveside service was held at Hillside Cemetery, Columbus on Saturday, October 5, 2013. Rev. Robert Wilke officiated. Memorials may be made to Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, the Columbus Country Club, or the charity of one's choice.
