Shirley M. Hoffman, age 77, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, WI with family by her side.
She was born on June 30, 1940 to Maurice and Viola (Opie) Jornlin, at the Ottawa, IL hospital. She graduated from Earlville High School in 1958. She was married to Howard Hoffman on September 13, 1959 at the First Presbyterian Church in Earlville. They farmed in the Earlville and surrounding area for several years and she enjoyed being a nurses aide at the hospital in Sandwich, IL before moving to Columbus, WI in 1969. She truly enjoyed her employment as a bus driver for almost 40 years with Columbus Transport and Riteway Bus Services where she was still employed. Although she enjoyed playing softball early on, Shirley's true love over the last 50 years was bowling. She enjoyed traveling to and competing in many WIBC/USBC National Bowling Tournaments all over the lower 48 states, as well as participating in many local and state tournaments. She served as President and Secretary/Treasurer for many years for various bowling leagues, associations and clubs, at both the local and state level, and was a coach for the junior bowling program. She also wrote the Gutter Gussie Gossips Column for the local newspaper highlighting weekly league scores and bowler achievements. For her extensive involvement with bowling, Shirley was also awarded the prestigious Women of Distinction Award. Shirley was active in the community and volunteered countless hours over the years. She served on the Greater Columbus Recreation Committee conducting numerous fundraisers for the new aquatic center and also served on the 4th of July Committee to raise funds and plan the annual community event.
Shirley truly loved life, and friends, but most of all her family. She is survived by two sons Edwin and Daryl (Cheryl) Hoffman of Columbus, an only daughter Tonja (Ronald) Zenk of Juneau, WI; nine grandchildren, Kelli and Scott Hoffman, Jackie (Jamie) Price, Kasey (Steve) Bader, Jamie (fiance' Eric Weigen) Knudson, Robert (Jenna), John, Andrew and Alyssa Zenk; four great grandchildren, and brother Robert (Lois) Jornlin of Earlville, IL as well as many nieces and nephews.
Welcoming her with open arms are husband Howard, son Ronald, parents Maurice and Viola Jornlin, brother and sister-in-law Maurice "Duke" and Betty Jornlin Jr., father- in-law and mother-in-law John and Rosa Hoffman.
