Columbus formally Fall River

Obituary

Fall River/Columbus—Virginia (Sommi) Schneider passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017 in Columbus, Wisconsin just eighteen days shy of her 95 th birthday. She was born on September 9, 1922 in the town of Schley, Wisconsin. She was the oldest child of Jacob and Laura (Evans) Sommi. She graduated from Merrill High School, class of 1940. She married James Schneider on March 7, 1942, together they raised five children. She and James moved to Columbus in 1964. Virginia was a faithful member of the Wisconsin Academy Seventh-day Adventist Church where she served as assistant treasurer for many years. She was also the designated flower lady, taking plants to church members who were hospitalized. The year she turned eighty, she took a trip to Hawaii and also an Alaskan cruise accompanied by family members where she had such a good time. Through the years she has had varying interests including embroidery, macramé, caning antique chairs. She canned hundreds of quarts of fruit, juices, and vegetables from her garden . Her rolled out Christmas cookies have been a family tradition as well as her peanut butter bon bons. But most of all she was an avid reader, often found in her recliner with a crisp apple, a magazine, her Bible or the newest book to add to her collection. She passed that love for reading to all five of her children. Survivors include her son Alan (Connie) Schneider of Orlando, FL; two daughters, Pat (Robert) Magray of Hobart, Kate Schneider of Ukiah, CA; seven grandchildren, Robert (Carmen) Magary, Randal (Heather) Magray, Patrick (Susan) Scott, Michael (Sarah) Scott, Thomas Schneider, Jamin Olney, Janessa Olney; seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas Scott, Rachel Scott, Taylor Scott, Kyle Scott, Ellie Magray, Emilie Magray, Maria Magry; a sister June Hoffman of Neenah; a brother Roger (Evelyn) Sommi of Wausau; a sister-in-law Jeanette Sommi of Merrill; a son-in-law Jerry Alexander of Berrien Springs, MI; other relatives and friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband James on April 29, 2000; her brother Jake, and her daughters Nancy Scott and Sandy Alexander. Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. at Jensen Funeral & Cremation, Columbus with visitation beginning at 2:00 P.M., Pastor Steve Aust officiated. Interment will be in the Fall River Cemetery, Fall River. Memorials may be made to Adventist Frontier Missions or Quiet Hour Ministries.
