Obituary

William "Bill" Herman Gretzinger, 88, of Fall River, WI passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Columbia County Health Care Center in Wyocena.

Bill was born the son of Herman, and Bertha (Seier) Gretzinger on April 3, 1935, in Columbus.  He was a graduate of Fall River High School in 1953.  He was married to Donna Berger, on February 5, 1955 at Fall River Lutheran Church until she passed away in 2007.  Bill married Joyce Des Jardins on March 17, 2008.

Bill joined the Army out of High School where he served at the Army Base in Wiesbaden, Germany, working in the Motor Pool and the Chemical Core.  After his time in the Army, he became a farmer, he also sold Northrup King seed corn.  He was a National Corn Grower Association winner for having the highest corn yield multiple years.  He served on the Fountain Prairie Board, Columbia County Board of Directors, Columbia County Land Use Board, and he was a founding member of National Corn Growers Association.

Bill enjoyed driving throughout Wisconsin to look at crops and deer.  He never needed a map and he knew who was on each farm you would pass. He also enjoyed spending time in his truck (his office), talking with anyone that would stop by to see him.  You could always count on Bill for a great April Fool's joke too.

Bill is survived by 5 children:  Gary (Nancy) Gretzinger of Middleburg, VA, Debra (Gene) Waterworth of Fall River, Tim (Janet) Gretzinger of Fall River, Susan Selje of Columbus,  Judi (Michael) Dauman, of Thornton, Co; 10 grandchildren: Troy Selje, Nick (Julie) Gretzinger, Ryan (Shannon) Waterworth, Chris (Valerie) Gretzinger, Wesley Waterworth, Alisha Dauman, Alana (Patrick) Umbrecht, Beau (Colleen) Berry, Nikole (John) Brillant, Megan (Jake) Gooing; 4 great grandchildren: Jason Selje, Bryce Waterworth, Zoey Waterworth, Lakelyn Gretzinger and, his brother-in-law, David Howe, Columbus, his sister-in-law, Arlene Gretzinger of WA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
